GOVERNOR HAS HIT THE 50% MILESTONE
AND 99% PLANNING MILESTONE
99% of the Lion Clubs have been scheduled! Only one club left unscheduled at this time. Really helps with my planning with the rest of my life! By the time I finish the two November visitations I will be at the 50% level for visitations! And, most importantly, First Laddie Lester & I have really been enjoying the great food, the wonderful fellowship and learning about the great projects that our Lion Clubs are conducting within our district. It’s amazing to see all the community service in every community we visit. We are very fortunate that the invitations to visit have allowed us to travel during the most beautiful season that Michigan has to offer. The colors have been fantastic. The best we’ve ever seen so we’ve enjoyed every minute of the traveling.
Every Club has it’s own story to tell, but today I will tell the story of Cedar Maple City Club. The picture is of President David McNeil, Lester & I. President Dave had just awarded Lester the:
The Cedar/Maple City Lions Board
1st LADDIE AWARD
 certifying that
LESTER McCLURE
 has fulfilled the requirements of
THIS PIONEERING POSITION
and is hereby admitted the rights and privileges
belonging to that position and achievement
given under the Board seal.
We had so much fun there. Along with the framed certificate Lester received a golden troll lion with a golden staff. The certificate is on our wall and the lion is in the china cabinet. What a great club. We both felt very special. That’s what lionism is all about. Fun, fellowship and enjoying each other. I’m thrilled to be your Governor and we’re having the time of our lives.

Congratulations to the Mesick Lions Club on the Chartering of their new Leo Club this month. If you didn't know it before, you know it now, President Andy Wuotila is a very special lion and just won't take no for an answer. He has sponsored six new members this year already!

Information
Technology
Update

“USE THE TOOL”

What is Information Technology?
The definition adopted last year by the committee states that Information Technology “includes all matters concerned with the furtherance of computer science and technology and with the design, development, installation, and implementation of information systems and applications.”  (IPDG John Johnson 11-B2)

What does this mean to you?
Your Information Technology (IT) Committee is dedicated to providing a channel for communication between district, clubs, and the individual Lion, because an informed Lion is essential to the enhancement of Lionism in our district.

How will we accomplish this?
In order to begin this process, it is necessary to have an understanding of how Lions are using the computer.  We have an online survey at: 11e1.homestead.com/survey.html and would appreciate your participation in the collection of this information.

What will we do with this information?
Email, web sites, and creation of documents are just a few things that the computer can do to help us improve interaction.  Data collected from the survey will help us to begin to recognize the needs of Lions in the district and show us how we can develop ways to build the bridge between Lions and the computer in the this new age of technology.

What is our Goal?
A.  Identify the audience
·
Who?  Who is using the internet?
·
What?  What are they using the internet for?
·
What do they need to know?
·
Why?  Why are they using or not using it?

B.  Establish Standards
·
Navigation
·
Accessibility · Minimize bandwidth usage – Keep it simple
·
Practicing what we preach
C.  Increase communication between District & Clubs as well as between Clubs & members
·
Training
Expected results
1.  Findability (Linked to International)
2.  Useability (Navigation and “User Friendly”)
3.  Maintainability (Current & Updated Info)
4.  Content
5.  Security
Thanks for helping us to serve you.

DISTRICT CONVENTION
Lion Pam Schroeder
Convention Chairman
The convention is only a few months away.  The committee has some great things planned for your convention.
The theme for convention is Mardi Gras.  We will be having a parade on Saturday afternoon. We are asking Clubs to decorate a hand pulled wagon and enter it in the parade.  There will be prizes for the best and worst.  Let your imagination run wild and bring your decorated wagon to the parade.
We will have music both Friday and Saturday nights at the hospitality room.  The musicians are Lions Ted and Dan from the Weidman Club.
They are both very talented and easy to listen to and we are looking forward to their entertainment.
The committee will be hosting a free continental breakfast on Saturday morning.  You won’t want to miss Lion Dan’s biscuits and gravy.  There will also be fruits and sweets, other than the committee, to go along with your coffee and juice.
This is only a small sampling of the great things that are happening the weekend of April 21 - 23, 2006.  Make plans to join us for a fun filled weekend of friends, laughs and of course some business.

Get a Bigger Bang for your Buck
Here are a couple of ideas that may be helpful for your club to increase your fundraising revenues and increase your scholarships.
The Clare Lions Club sends a letter to all businesses in their community requesting donations for their White Cane Sale.  This technique has increased their revenues significantly.  Club members would not be able to raise the amount they receive without this letter.  You can download the letter at the District web page.
The Big Rapids Lions Club has been giving a Presidential Freedom Scholarship for a few years and will give 2 this year.  The local club must donate $500 which will be matched and the student will receive $1000 total.  The only
restriction is that only 2 scholarships can be awarded by each high school.  You will need to work very closely with the high school counselor as they are the vehicle to enter the information to the foundation.  You can access this information as a link at the District web page or www.learnandserve.gov go to “our Programs” and then “Presidential Freedom Scholarship”.
Good luck, I hope these ideas are helpful.  If you have any other suggestions that you would like to share with the District, please send them to the District Governor.  We all can benefit from your experiences.
