REMINDER: Our next Cabinet meeting for the 2005-2006 year will be October 2, 2005 at the Newaygo County Commission On Aging, 93 Gibbs, White Cloud.  Cabinet meetings are open to all Lions in District 11E1

DISTRICT PICNIC
OCTOBER 1ST

We’re trying to bring the fun into our Lions activities and what could be more fun than a family picnic?
 Games for all ages:

· Go fish for the young ones and get a prize every time!
· Washer game tournament for the mid weights, all ages.
· Horseshoes tournament for the heavy weights, adults.
· Cribbage, Hands & Feet, Euchre, Rummy & LCR (bring pennies for LCR)
Prizes galore, winners & losers but remember, if you are at the picnic

YOU ARE A WINNER!

Directions to Camp Tuhsmeheta are not too complicated. Only two turns after you find Greenville! The camp is 6 miles WEST of Greenville, Greenville is on M57 east of US131 You turn South on Lincoln Lake Road off M 57. Continue about one mile down Lincoln Lake Road where you will find Podunk Road dead ending on Lincoln Lake from the right. Turn left there on a pretty nice dirt road that will lead you directly to the Camp, about 2 miles in. Lead to the right at intersections and you will arrive at White Pine Lodge for our picnic. It’s a beautiful drive into the Camp.
If the directions don’t sound very simple to you just give Lion Larry Alman, Greenville Lions Club a note on line at w8wr@charter.net or phone 1-616-754-9213 and you’ll get help. My expertise in not in directions! I will be there very early, about 9:30 a.m. and will have my cell phone on if you get lost or want to leave me a message. 1-231-730-6122.
The activities for the day will start as people arrive so you can come anytime your schedule will allow.
We will have our inside picnic pot luck lunch break at 1:00. Coffee and pop will be provided.
Then break for tours as you wish and also continue the games & contests. We should be awarding the prizes no later than 3:00 p.m. or earlier if we are so inclined.
NOTE: The children’s fishing prizes will be awarded as they fish and win!
If we have inclement weather WE WILL NOT BE CANCELING. Everything can be done inside the White Pine Lodge and we’ll have a great time anyway.
REMINDER: OCTOBER 2ND

NEW, NEW, NEW
ALL CLUBS TAKE NOTICE
WE NEED INFORMATION
ON YOUR PROJECTS NOW!

Lions Clubs International will be making a new video about community service projects. We have been invited to send our information to International about the Community Service Projects that will be happening in our District in the next 3-4 months for possible inclusion in the video!!
VERY EXCITING!
This is the recommended criteria for inclusion:
· Do they benefit the community at large or a group with special needs such as the elderly or children?
· Would non-Lions find these projects useful and interesting?
· Do the projects or activities have strong visual appeal?

Last year the Detroit Club in District A1 was featured in the new PR video.
NOW WE HAVE OUR CHANCE TO BE INCLUDED. CLUBS – TOOT YOUR HORN – LET US KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE COMING UP THAT IS SPECIAL TO YOUR COMMUNITY! LET YOUR MEMBERS SHINE THIS YEAR!
Lions of Michigan
Foundation Update

Did you know Cadillac Lions Club received approval for their grant request for Individual Assistance this year?

Did you know that the grants are funded by our Sight & Hearing Sweepstakes Tickets and the Lion Mints Program?

Did you know that 11E1 had 6 clubs donate up to $99.00 last year?

Did you know 11E1 had 17 clubs donate between $100 - $499.00 last year?

Did you know 11E1 had 2 clubs donate  between $500 - $999.00 last year?

Did you know 11E1 had 4 clubs donate between $1,000 -$4,999.00 last year?

That’s 29 clubs of our 51 clubs!
We certainly can be proud of our District. We made an impact on the Foundation again last year.
I hope we do as well this year.

WHAT ELSE CAN OUR CLUB DO TO HELP FUND OUR LIONS OF MICHIGAN FOUNDATION?

We can plan a Candy Day in our communities. Schedule a date, put notice in your paper, put flyers up, wear your lion jacket, hand out mints from the foundation and watch the money roll in!
Just a special note, the foundation will have sugar free spearmint mints sometime in October especially for those of you that are concerned with the diabetic public when asking for donations for the mints.
We can participate in the Mints for our Military program. Buy a case of mints for $120.00 from the foundation; just send a check with the order blank in this newsletter. The foundation will send the mints to the APO addresses in the US and the military mail will get your case of mints overseas to the military in the field and the military in the hospitals. Can you imagine, the lion logo going to all the military men and women? This will show them we are supporting them in their work to protect our country. Nothing is more important than that at this time. Your local VFW’s might want to send a case of lion mints overseas. No postage. Wonderful program. Copy the flyer and let your community know what you are doing for our men & women that are away from home defending our democracy.
If your club receives a medical request that is over your budget contact our 11E1 Foundation Trustees to help you apply for a medical grant. It’s worth a try.
PDG Dick Maguire, Six Lakes Club,
or PDG Dan Gibbons, Onekama Club.
Both Lions are listed in your District Roster on the bottom of page 4.

PROJECT KIDSIGHT
District 11E1 is very active with the project kidsight project. Many thanks to White Cloud, Hart, Onekama, Coleman, Lakeview, Baldwin, Fremont, Sand Lake, Northport, Harrison, etc. for having trained personal and actually taking pictures of the eyes of children in their communities. Hundreds of children have been processed in our District and we have several stories to tell about helping the children’s vision.

If your club hasn’t been active with this project yet you have an opportunity to help us out right now. Lions International gave the State of Michigan a matching grant to start the project here. We are behind on our matching funds so if you aren’t spending any money doing this project perhaps you could send a donation to help us with the matching funds requirement. Make checks out to Project Kidsight and mail to:
